Panda Bear! Big Thief! Will Oldham! Cat Power! Tomaga! Mica Levi!

WHERE THE HELL IS BAD BONN?

Panda Bear! Big Thief! Will Oldham! Cat Power! Tomaga! Mica Levi!

WHERE THE HELL IS BAD BONN?

They all know where Bad Bonn is. Unlike before, when the now classic slogan “Where the hell is Bad Bonn?” had a true ring to it. And this is not only due to precise navigation devices in tour buses and other concert vehicles of traveling musicians. It’s due to the phenomenal reputation that this inconspicuous house on the outskirts of the Freiburg village of Düdingen has been enjoying for decades. Over the 30 years during which Daniel “Duex” Fontana and his team have run the pub of unheard-of hospitality, almost everyone who does not perceive music as streaming-optimized merchandise has come here. We heard the most beautiful songs, the craziest sounds, celebrated the best parties. And mostly, all these types of music could be experienced much earlier than elsewhere, in an intimate club with a capacity of just 250 visitors. Let’s just name a few (although thousands of bands spring to mind): Deerhoof! Panda Bear! Big Thief! Will Oldham! Cat Power! Tomaga! Mica Levi! And we haven’t even mentioned Bad Bonn Kilbi, the festival at which the names sound a little more prominent than during the week – and collide with more secret obstacles from all over the world. For years the three-day festival has been a popular gathering of niches, making sure that every music fan knows by heart where Bad Bonn is.

But that’s not to say that trips to Bad Bonn have ever become routine: in all those thirty years, in spite of its commitment to consistency and stubbornness, the club has always had enough curiosity and courage to take aback even the best friends of the house, inviting them to widen their eyes and ears.

Where would we be if Bad Bonn didn’t exist? And where would all the musicians be? Who the hell knows.
