«(My Name is) Luka» hat sie 1987 auf einen Schlag in beinahe aller Herren Länder auf oberste Chartsplätze und Bestennominierungslisten gehievt. Gleichwohl hat der kommerzielle Erfolg von Suzanne Vega dann doch eher die Damenwelt geprägt. Dieser hat sie in der männlich geprägten Rockwelt zu breiterer Anerkennung verholfen und Tracy Chapman, Tanita Tikaram oder Tori Amos den Weg zum Erfolg geebnet. Drei Jahre nach Luka folgte noch der Jahrhundert-Remix von «Tom’s Diner». Dass Suzanne Vega und Begleitung gut eingespielt sind, zeigt auch das aktuelle Live-Doppelalbum, das sie nach ihrer grössten Hitscheibe «Solitude Standing» benannt hat.
